Risk Assessment: Electromechanical Erection

Workers Affected by Works Hazards

PREVENTIVE MEASURES

Rules for acting

  • Scaffolding:
    • The erection of scaffolding must be supervised and a green card is to be displayed that authorises its use.
    • Scaffolding is to be planned, erected and suitably maintained so as to avoid its accidental collapse or displacement.
    • Work platforms, gangways and ladders on scaffolding must be constructed, sized and used in such a way as to impede people from falling or being exposed to falling objects.
    • It should have the necessary strength and support or securing elements, or both, so that its use under the conditions for which it was designed does not suppose a risk of falling due to failure or displacement. While the scaffolding displays a red card, it is not to be used UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE WHATSOEVER.

NOTES: Complex scaffolding:

(1) Depending on the complexity of the chosen scaffolding, an erection, use and dismantling plan is to be drawn up. In view of the aforementioned proviso, an erection, use and dismantling plan is to be mandatory for the following types of scaffolding:

  1. a) Suspended platforms of variable height installed temporarily on a building or structure for specific tasks and mast-type elevating platforms.
    b) Scaffolding composed of prefabricated elements supported on natural terrain, concrete flooring, slabs or other elements whose height, from the bottom support level to the crown of the scaffolding, exceeds 6 metres and which is provided with horizontal elements that span distances of over 8 metres. Trestle or wooden framework scaffolding is exempted from this proviso.
    c) Scaffolding installed outdoors whose distance between the support level and ground level exceeds 24 metres.
    d) Mobile access towers or work towers for working at a height of more than 6 metres.
