Workers Affected by Works Hazards

Rules for acting

(1) Complex Scaffolding: Depending on the complexity of the chosen scaffolding, an erection, use and dismantling plan is to be drawn up. In view of the aforementioned proviso, an erection, use and dismantling plan is to be mandatory for the following types of scaffolding:

a) Suspended platforms of variable height installed temporarily on a building or structure for specific tasks and mast-type elevating platforms.

b) Scaffolding composed of prefabricated elements supported on natural terrain, concrete flooring, slabs or other elements whose height, from the bottom support level to the crown of the scaffolding, exceeds 6 metres and which is provided with horizontal elements that span distances of over 8 metres. Trestle or wooden framework scaffolding is exempted from this proviso.

c) Scaffolding installed outdoors whose distance between the support level and ground level exceeds 24 metres.

d) Mobile access towers or work towers for working at a height of more than 6 metres.

(2) Scaffolding is to be inspected:

  • Before being put into service
  • Periodically
  • After any modification, period when not in use, exposure to the elements or other circumstances that may have managed to affect its strength or stability.

(3) When erection is carried and supervised by ISASTUR Group personnel, the supervisor of said erection must be qualified in accordance with the stipulations of the procedure for Qualifying workers for work involving a special hazard.

  • The support elements of scaffolding are to be protected against slipping, including mobile scaffolding. The stability of scaffolding must be ensured.
  • Scaffolding platforms are to be appropriate fro the job to be done and the load to support and are to allow personnel to work and circulate safely.
  • When any part of the scaffolding is not ready for use, it is to be conveniently signposted and demarcated using physical elements that impede access to said hazard zone.
  • Scaffolding is to be planned, erected and suitably maintained so as to avoid its accidental collapse or displacement. To this end, all scaffolding must be calculated in one of the following ways:
    • SIMPLE scaffolding: a Scaffolding Calculation Note is available that has been chosen in accordance with the setup to use (manufacturer, provider or supplier) and/or erection is to be carried out according to a generally recognised standard setup.
    • COMPLEX scaffolding: its erection and dismantling is to be carried out according to the Specific Erection Plan drawn up to this effect (corresponding TI).
