Work on Electrical Installations and in premises presenting a fire or explosion hazard

Definitions and concepts:

7. Live Work (LW)

Work during which a worker enters into Contact with live parts or enters into a danger zone, either with a part of his body or with the tools, equipment, devices or materials he handles.

8. Proximity Zone

The demarcated space around the danger zone from which the worker may accidentally penetrate the latter.

9. Proximity Work (PW)

Work during which a worker enters or may enter into a proximity zone without entering the danger zone, either with a part of his body or with the tools, equipment, devices or materials he handles.

10. Manoeuvre (Manipulation)

An intervention aimed at changing the electrical status of an electrical installation, not involving the assembling or dismantling of any element.

Types of manoeuvres:

  • Modification of the electrical status of the installation to use a piece of equipment, close or open a circuit, switch equipment on or off (designed to be used in this way without risk), provided that this may reasonably be done.
  • Connection or disconnection of installations to carry out work on them.

11. Measurements, tests and checks

Activities aimed at verifying compliance with technical and safety specifications or conditions necessary for the proper functioning of an electrical installation, including those aimed at testing its electrical, mechanical, thermal, protection efficacy, safety and manoeuvre circuits status, etc.
