3. Criteria for using PPE
PPE should be used when risks exist for the health or safety of workers that could not have been avoided or sufficiently limited by:
- Technical means of collective protection.
- Work organisation measures, methods or procedures.
The following scheme indicates when PPE are to be used.
However, it is the employer who must determine the jobs where PPE is to be used, as well as specifying in said posts:
- The hazard or hazards against which protection must be provided.
- The parts of the body to protect.
- The type of PPE to be used.
The employer must also provide workers with PPE free of charge.
