Organization and Management of Occupational Risk Prevention

4. Risk Prevention Organisation

4.3.2. Of Middle Management (regardless of their level in the hierarchy)

General functions:

  • To apply, manage and control preventive actions, within the scope of their competences and areas of responsibility.
  • To oversee the health and safety conditions of staff they are in charge of.

Principles that regulate their actions:

  • To implement the Risk Prevention Policy within the scope of their attributes and in accordance with the guidelines laid down by Management, putting this into practice and demanding its fulfilment by staff in their charge.

Specific functions:

  • To participate in the initial and periodical assessment(s) and in the planning and/or monitoring of the preventive action.
  • To ensure that available work sites and equipment, or those made available to the workers they are in charge of, present adequate conditions so as to be safely used by said workers or those who may access them for work reasons.
  • To ensure that the workers who answer to them:
    • Are qualified and duly trained to carry out the task they are given, so as to be able to guarantee safety as regards their integrity and health and that of any person who may be affected by said activity.
    • Have sufficient information at their disposal in relation to work processes, so as to be able to carry out their tasks in such a way that these do not suppose a threat to their health or safety.
    • Have at their disposal the necessary means of protection and that they make suitable use of these.
  • In situations of serious and imminent risk, take suitable measures and, if necessary, order work to be interrupted or abandoned.
  • Adopt the necessary measures so that the right of the workers in their charge to information, consultation and participation may be respected, ensuring that their staff knows and complies with the Risk Prevention Policy established in the ISASTUR Group, the applicable regulations and best practices for risk prevention.
  • Apply what is established in the Safety Manual and in the Works Procedures, contributing to the drawing up of any documentation that may be demanded of them.

4.3.3. Of the Workers

General functions:

  • To incorporate Risk Prevention in all their tasks, respecting established preventive regulations and measures.

Principles that regulate their actions:

  • To look out for their own health and safety at work and for that of any other person who may be affected by the work they carry out, in keeping with their possibilities and in accordance with their training and the risk prevention measures dictated by Management.
  • To actively cooperate with Management in maintaining, fostering and improving safety at work, in the exercise of their right to information, participation ad consultation.

Specific functions:

  • To know and fulfil in-house regulations and, in any case whatsoever, to act in compliance with the instructions received from their superiors, professional knowledge and best practices in Risk Prevention.
  • To correctly use the personal hazard protection equipment and means necessary to carry out their work, ensuring that these are suitable and in perfect working condition.
  • To properly use, in accordance with their nature and foreseeable risks, machines, work equipment, tools, hazardous substances and, in general, all the means facilitated to them to perform their activities.
  • To maintain in a proper state of conservation, order and cleanliness the entire working area, equipment, tools and other elements in their charge (during and on finishing a job), immediately informing their Immediate Superior of any defects or anomalies observed.
  • To not put out of working order and to correctly use any existing safety devices or those which are installed in the resources related to their activity or at work sites in which these take place.
  • To immediately inform their Immediate Superior of any situation that they believe may involve a risk to health or safety.
  • To contribute to the fulfilment of the obligations established by the competent authority aimed at safeguarding the health and safety of workers.
  • To cooperate with Management so that it may guarantee safe working conditions that do not entail risks of any kind, including collaborating to address any possible emergency situation.
  • To undergo the necessary medical check-ups for health-monitoring reasons, within the framework stipulated in the L.P.R.L.
  • To behave appropriately and not work under the effects of alcohol or drugs, so as to avoid placing themselves, their workmates, and any other person, goods or equipment in danger.
  • To attend the training activities of a general or specific nature in matters of Risk Prevention that the ISASTUR Group establishes and to commit themselves to applying the training they receive.
